About Keep It Retail
About:
For years now (or as long as we can remember), we have searched near and far for an outlet to share our creative, artistic endeavors with others. After interest in various hobbies left us wanting more, we decided it was time to pursue the formation of a company.
History:
We began silk-screening t-shirts in the backyard of a Brooklyn apartment using sunlight. We had a lot of fun "burning screens" for t-shirts, and even learned a few things. The water-based method, limited to dark colors on light shirts. Using sunlight to burn the screens may be "green" but is not the cleanest method for producing t-shirts. Roommates were displeased with the random ink left behind from rinsing screens in the tub. It was time to move on...
Sold handmade t-shirts in a couple of stores in The Boroughs of NYC under consignment.
Moved from backyard pressing to silk-screening in a shop in upstate NY. Learned more about the professional process, color separating, Plastosol inks, washroom, and many long hours. This left us wanting to make more shirts and have them seen.
Launched first attempt at self-designed website. Had mediocre success. Site was difficult to manage. A broken hip, resulting in two surgeries during the year, brought "Keep It Retail" to a temporary halt.
June 2008
After months of rehab and a willing partner, the business progressed from initial concept to reality. Mike joined the team.
August 2008
Legal papers were filed for Keep It Retail, LLC. Progress was being made.
